The AI MVP Readiness Checklist
AI tools are good at generating code. They are not good at telling you whether you have a product. That judgment is still yours.
Before you put an MVP in front of paying users, it helps to run it through a simple checklist. This is the shape of the one we use. Go through it honestly. The gaps you find are your real to-do list.
1. Is the problem real?
The fastest way to waste a build is to solve a problem nobody will pay to fix.
- Have you spoken to real potential users, not just friends?
- Can you name the specific moment your product saves someone time or money?
- Is anyone solving this today in a clumsy way? That is a good sign.
If you cannot answer these, no amount of code will help. Validate first.
2. Is the product usable?
A working app and a usable app are different things.
- Can a new user reach the core action without being told how?
- Is there one clear thing you want them to do?
- Have you watched someone use it without helping them?
Watching one real person struggle teaches you more than a month of guessing.
3. Is the code maintainable?
This is where AI-built MVPs quietly fail.
- Are there tests on the flows that matter most?
- Is there error handling, or does the app assume everything works?
- Could another developer understand it without you in the room?
- Is anything documented at all?
If only you can keep it running, you do not have a product. You have a second job.
4. Is it secure?
AI tools skip security unless pushed, and often even then.
- Is access to data enforced on the server, not just hidden in the interface?
- Are API keys and secrets kept out of the code?
- Are you handling personal data in line with privacy rules?
- Has anyone actually looked for the obvious holes?
A security gap is fine in a prototype. It is a serious problem the day real users arrive.
5. Can you actually launch it?
A product that cannot be found, trusted, or paid for is not launched. It is hidden.
- Do you have pricing you can defend?
- Is there a clear way for someone to sign up or buy?
- Do you have monitoring so you know when it breaks?
- Do you have a plan to reach your first real users?
Launch is not a button. It is pricing, trust, and a way in.
Using the checklist
Score yourself across the five areas. The weakest one is where you start. Most AI-built MVPs are strong on code and weak on security, maintainability, and launch readiness, in that order.
We packaged a longer version of this as the AI MVP Readiness Checklist, and we run a free assessment that scores your product across these dimensions and hands you a prioritized action list. If your MVP came out of an AI tool and you are not sure it is ready, that is exactly what the assessment is for.
